ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born and living in Paris, Martine Villandre studied at the Fine Arts at Arts Décoratifs of Paris where she was influenced by Cezanne, Matisse, Braque, DeStael, Malevith, Mondrian, and Rothko. Villandre mounted her first solo exhibition in Neuilly sur seine in 1999 and has had subsequent solos in Toulouse, Paris, Cannes, and Nice. Villandre’s work is held in public and private collections world-wide, including Avignon, Cannes, Lyon, Nice, Paris, Toulouse, Geneva, Zurich, New York, Johannesburg, and Mahé.
ABOUT THE WORK
Martine Villandre has created a personal language of radical abstraction structured in squares and rectangles. Using acrylic paint, she builds her works from vertical blocks of color, subtly infused with line and texture that create unexpected tensions from within. Colors interact and lines interconnect forming works of a sophisticated personal vision.
