ABOUT THE WORK

This work expresses through geometry the artist’s love of color and movement.  The principal focus is on the optical qualities of color.  In some of the images, a middle color influenced by one or the other of the component colors becomes lighter or darker with a hint of the other color surrounding the middle color.  The interaction of colors is most important.  Artworks with black, white and gray create an especially intense “push/pull” effect that can imply a sense of movement or action.  Integration and balance play a role in the inherent meditative quality of the art.  The works of Seurat and Albers have been instrumental in inspiring my work.  Albers’ use of the simple square to display his color theories suggested the geometrical presentation.  The multiple parts increase the potential for further alignments.  Through the introduction of choice, visual possibilities expand.
