ABOUT THE ARTIST

The exploration of the role of Women in Art and Society (Revising Art History, Rescuing the Female Image) informs Danièle Marin’s art. She was born in Paris, France, and now lives in the U.S.A. She earned an M.F.A. in painting from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y. and has been the recipient of two Painting Awards from The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey. She is included in Art in America, Woman’s Art Journal (Rutgers) and many other publications. Her work is in the collection of the Newark Museum (NJ) The Montclair Museum (NJ), Merrill Lynch and private collections. In addition to eight solo shows in New York, she exhibited at Rutgers University (Mary H. Dana Women Artists Series) and participated in the Fifth Annual International Biennale of Contemporary Art in Florence, Italy.

ABOUT THE WORK

In this series of paintings, I engage in rescuing the “Still” decorative feminine image from its confinement by creating a narrative arena of de/re/construction. The painting surface becomes a stage/space for communication between different techniques and images, challenging the boundaries of spatial perception and moving toward the development of an active visual language. The incorporation of fabric shifts the expectation about traditional feminine arts.
