ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born in Paris in 1953, Anne Kolin first became interested in contemporary art while living in Amsterdam in the mid 1980s. A frequent visitor to the Stedelijk Museum, she was particularly inspired by the work of Fautrier, Tapies, and Karel Appel. On her return to Paris, she obtained a Masters Degree in plastic arts at the Sorbonne, where her work explored both the figurative and the disfigured. From 1998-2000, Anne Kolin worked at the Strasbourg prison as a consultant in modern art workshops. Together with prisoners, she started to experiment with collages and torn posters on the walls.

Anne Kolin works and exhibits regularly in Paris and New York.

ABOUT THE WORK

Anne Kolin translates on the canvas the modern marks of our urban environment.

The association of graffiti, tags and other pictorial elements covering city walls lead the Artist

to self-questioning. Walls become wide-opened books. The script is about poetry or violence, with short stories quickly replaced by new pages. City walls show again and again new faces. Ephemeral writings, always re-covered, they become giant palimpsests on which we can read the story of our society
